Club Scene

Stitchers of all levels are welcome to join these monthly meetings. Call ahead for materials lists or go to clubsupplies-VFS.blogspot.com.

Village Fabric Shoppe Clubs are a great way to try something new or brush up on old skills while meeting lots of great fellow quilters. And the on-going nature of our clubs allows us to explore techniques in more depth than in a regular class. So, join us and become part of the "Village Fabric Club Scene!" Meeting dates are in monthly listings. General plans for each club are below, Check the blog for more detailed information and supply lists as we go.

Art quilters
We will continue our exploration of design principles as we work through the exercises in "Fearless Design" by Lorraine Torrence and friends. You will expand your skills and develop your personal style as we take things one concept at a time. Second Tuesdays, 10-12, $10.00
Crazy Quilters
Join us in the magical world of crazy quilting! Each month we'll explore a variety of embellishment techniques in an informal setting while creating heirloom quality items like needle cases, purses or photo frames sure to become treasured family keepsakes. No prior experience necessary. Usually fourth Saturdays. 10-1, $18.00
Hand Stitchers
No electricity, no machine, no problem.!! Join us as we try out direct smocking and English Paper Piecing over the next few meetings. First Tuesdays , 10 -12, $10.00
Block of the Month
Based on the Kelmscott Quilt in William Morris in Appliqué, it is fused and raw edge appliquéd. Easier than you think! We will work through this one block at a time for the entire year. Get signed up soon so you don't miss any. First Saturdays, 9 am. Free with block kit purchase( $12.00 ).
Scrap Therapy Thursdays Cutting sessions
A prerequisite for all Scrap Therapy Projects, great for beginners to learn safe use of tools and great fro more experienced quilters to organize their scraps into a very usable system. 11-1 on the first Thursday of Most months. $10.00 - see box on inside back cover. followed by Open cutting and exchange from 1-4

Difficulty Ratings

* beginner: I have not quilted before. You will be given a 10% discount when purchasing equipment and materials for classes with this rating.
** confident beginner: I can sew a reasonably even seam and use my equipment comfortably.
*** intermediate: I have done some quilting and want to learn more
**** advanced: I love a challenge and have experience with the basics!!

Art Camp for Grownups
This year we will concentrate on paint effects on fabric. From beautiful background washes and sky and water fabrics, to printing, stamping and stenciling, You will be ready for any project with your own custom made fabrics. Fun for all levels- no sewing.

Great Grids and Perky Plaids
Do you want to Quilt your own quilts, but don't know where to start? Are those tops piling up? Grids are the classic overall design and make great background designs for fancywork too. Come learn how to make great grids and even some perky plaids. This no marking method will have you finishing all your tops in time for the fair!! If you don't have a top ready layer some fat quarters for a pair of placemats and get a jump on holiday gifts!!

Just 4 Fun Summer Quilt
We will cut piece layer and tie this light weight summer quilt. The only thing you need to know is that you want to make this quilt. Most of the work will be completed in class and the fee even includes one of our Just 4 Fun fabric Kits. Sewing machine required.

A Tisket, A Tasket Appliqué Workshops
We've been having so much fun creating the wonderful basket blocks and learning new forms of appliqué. Feel free to join the fun at any time – you don't have to have taken the previous classes!" In the next three sessions, we'll explore different hand appliqué techniques. (If you haven't already downloaded the patterns, contact Diana at the shop.) These blocks are loaded with charm and are small enough that they make a great take-along project and can be easily completed in time for the next month. July 24th, we'll work on block 8 using heat resistant Mylar to prepare our shapes and then work on perfecting nice, invisible stitches – not as hard as you think with tips from Diane!

Picnic in the Park UFO Day
Start with a clean slate for fall or complete your Dutchess County Fair entries – finishing those UFO's will be "a picnic in the park" with Diane's ready advice! And speaking of picnics, bring your lunch and we'll supply the iced tea and lemonade plus brownies for dessert. What better way to spend a vacation day!

Lemon-Blueberry Quilt
Just in time for blueberry season, This two color (plus) stunner will richly flavor your summer. Learn how effective pinning and pressing can give you perfect points and intersections. This wonderful block can give the illusion of circles without curves and without diamonds.

Sunbonnet Sue and Over-all Sam
These kids are quilting classics! Whether you’re decorating a nursery or just want to make a really special quilt, we’ll help you with a quick and easy technique for the appliqué plus lots of fun and creative ideas for the embellishment. Sue and Sam would look great in 1930’s repros or any country style fabric you’d like. We know you’ll love these two as much as we do!

Beautiful Binding
This subject gets glossed over in so many workshops we thought it was time to set things straight. Learn what those picky judges look for in a binding and why. Then find out how to make yours wonderful. Once you know how to do it right, you may find yourself winning more ribbons!!!! You need to have a project ready to bind.- perhaps even a placemat from the Great Grids workshop.

Pillowcase Party
Learn how to make a basic pillowcase using the Hot Dog method. Just show up with a few friends and choose from our pre cut pieces of fabric. As you move from station to station you will create a bed sized Pillowcase and learn how to repeat this on your own. This is a perfect way to ease into sewing with a machine. If you donate your effort to the Million Pillowcase Challenge, the lesson if FREE. Lets see how many we can get done in a day!!

Who's There? Fabric Collage for Kids
Owls will perch happily on this 12 inch pillow slip. Fused construction means this is as easy as tracing. cutting and ironing. With basic hand stitched accents even the adults will love this project. Let the kids have the fun and they will learn valuable skills and a love of fabric and threads that will enrich their whole lives. Safe behavior around irons, scissors and needle and thread will be emphasized. Ages 7 & up.

Chicken Scratch Bookmark or Fob
This simple embroidery technique relies on the checks of gingham for guidelines and uses only two simple stitches. Learn the technique on this little project and make one for everyone on your list. We will also discuss how to add this to other projects. Bring small scissors and a 3" embroidery hoop, everything else is included!! Even the kids can do this one!!

A Tisket a Tasket Appliqué Workshops
Block 10, our choice for this month , will focus on freezer paper for creating the shapes (and again, a bit of wool). This block may be done by hand or machine. See the July listing for an overview of this ongoing series.
